I use Internet valid addresses (supplied by my ISP) at home instead of
the usual 192.168.x.y typical of a netgear/linksys home system. The
network mask I use is 255.255.255.224 (as supplied by my ISP) and the
base was conected into this network.

I could ping it happily on this network and it was even able to successfully retrieve a firmware update directly from the Gigaset Internet site. As mentioned, the web
interface was badly broken when I tried to connect to it on this network
(whether the IP address was assigned statically or via DHCP). By chance
I tried connecting the base into a low-end Netgear router/switch that
used 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 as it’s network and the web interface
immediately worked.

I then tried configuring a new Vlan on my Cisco
switch that used a typical 255.255.255.0 mask and moved the base into
that Vlan. Again, the web interface worked fine and as soon as I placed
the base back into the 255.255.255.224 network, the problems re-appeared.
